January Updates

1. Dusty completed 30 days of training with me and went home yesterday. He is safe to lunge and ride at walk and trot, but is still quite cantankerous, so he will probably be moving onto a new home as the Chapman's continue to search for a third horse that is as perfect for their family as Spirit and Fancy. Spirit, the Chapman's 11-year-old Arabian gelding will be coming to Blues Creek in the next week or so to spend 30 days in advanced training so that he is ready for Emily as the show season approaches. The Chapman family will be coming to Blues Creek this Saturday for Joe's Birthday party where he and his friends will get to groom horses, learn to tack up, and ride and then eat a pizza lunch in the lounge.

2. As of today, I have made the final decision to purchase Rock Legend ("Spyder"), a five-year-old trakehner gelding from Loon Creek Enterprises in Indiana. The wonderful people at Loon Creek have worked with me over the past several weeks to make sure that Spyder was exactly the right match for me. He will be arriving Wednesday, so be sure to stop by his stall and introduce yourself!

3. Steve has put up all new lighting in the indoor arena and we should be able to videotape and photograph in there with a lot of success. It is the brightest I have ever seen an indoor arena and we are very grateful to have the lighting during these next couple of dark months!

4. Reuben was sold to a great family who live outside of Dayton, Ohio. He left on Saturday to go to his new home, where he will be a trail horse for his new owner Kerri. She and Reuben clicked right away and she amazed all of us by hopping on and trotting him around the arena. We look forward to updates and pictures.

5. WEATHER ISSUES: Lesson students: If the temperature is forecasted to be below 20 degrees or the windchill is below 5 degrees, please call me to see whether or not we will be conducting your lesson. Most of the time, if it is that cold, you should assume your lesson is cancelled unless you talk to me to confirm that we will still ride. In extremely cold weather, expect your lessons to be no longer than 45 minutes under saddle, as I feel that it is not healthy for horses or riders to be subjected to extreme cold for any longer than this.

WEATHER pt. 2. If School in the Marysville area is cancelled for the day you have your lesson, you should assume that your lesson is also cancelled.

6. I am happy to be working with Kim and her boarders at their barn in Ostrander. I am currently dividing my time among three barns, so if you try to contact me and are unsuccessful, keep bothering me. I am extremely busy and I appreciate your persistence when trying to get me on the phone. I will try to answer every time unless I am on a horse or in a lesson.

More to come......
